A1 Locksmith in Midlothian, Va defrauded me Midlothian Virginia

*Consumer Comment: Locksmith scam

Yesterday, October 10,2017, I called A1 Locksmith for assistance as I had locked my keys in the car. Their website stated $35+ to perform this service. The service person met me at 2430 Pagehurst Drive in Midlothian, VA, where I was getting my hair cut. He arrived perhaps 10 or 15 minutes later and announced that the charge would be $80 if I paid cash and $100 if I charged it.

I called the business since I figured he was going to pocket the $20 and say nothing if I decided to pay cash . When I confronted the woman who answered the phone that the website said the fee was $35, and how on earth did it jump to costing $100? She made some vague comment about charging $15 for coming to the site where my car was located but of course that would only bump up the fee to $50. And obviously that $15 should show up on the website since anyne who calls to get keys out of a locked car would need on site service!

I asked her if she was backing this service person’s outrageous charge, and she stated yes. Today I tried to track down this business and discovered that it is not a brick and mortar store but only a mailbox. I feel that I should receive at least a $30 refund. I want to warn everyone never to use this company as they cheat people. There are other reports in other cities where consumers were cheated by A1 Locksmith.

Locksmith scam

AUTHOR: FloridaNative - (USA)

Did the person show up in an unmarked vehicle?  If so, I strongly suspect that you were a victim of a locksmith scam. This locksmith scam is all over the US. Look up details on the FTC.gov website. You can't find the vendor from yesterday because of the way the scam is set up. They "borrow" names, addresses and have the phone calls go to a boiler room type set up. The fees are low balled on the front end and then when they get there to do the work, the fee escalates tremendously.

To avoid these locksmith scams find a legitimate brick and morter locksmith vendor in your area and put their info in your phone so you don't accidently call one of the many scammer numbers. I found this scam the same way you did...I googled for a locksmith and ended up getting ripped off big time. I'm sorry you experienced this. Hopefully others can learn from your report.
